Dan checks on Lee Chong Wei after the Malaysian world No.1 suffered leg
cramps during their World Championships final. Lin Dan won after Chong
Wei retired whilst trailing 17-20 in the third game.
Chong Wei retired at 16-21, 21-13, 20-17 after suffering leg cramps – taking a little shine off Lin Dan’s record fifth world title.
Seu Bock said that he accepted the defeat but felt it was not right to make the players suffer.
“Today’s final was of high quality. It was between two legendary players. They played really well and it all boiled down to who was mentally stronger,” said Seu Bock.
“A defeat is a defeat. I can accept it but I cannot tolerate the organisers switching off the air conditioner in the second game.
“It was so hot inside and Chong Wei was dehydrated. This led to him suffering cramps.During the second game when we realised that it was too hot, we wanted to protest and we asked for an explanation from both the BWF (Badminton World Federation) and the organisers.
“Both BWF and the organisers said that they did not know why the air conditioner was switched off. The organisers said that they were not responsible as it was handled by another department. This is not right. The players were suffering. At one point, Chong Wei was struggling to breathe,” said Seu Bock.
Seu Bock also said that he was not happy with the tournament’s schedule.
Chong Wei’s semi-final match against Du Pengyu of China on Saturday went on until late in the night while Lin Dan’s match was staged in the afternoon.
“Did it affect Chong Wei? Of course, it did. Lin Dan had six hours more rest than Chong Wei. I hope they will look into all this in the future,” added Seu Bock.
On Chong Wei’s condition, Seu Bock said: “He is recovering. It was just cramps.
